Microsoft has not released a MPP or Microsoft Project File viewer, like it has released for it’s other products like word, excel and powerpoint under the Microsoft Office Viewers tools.
To read a Microsoft Project file, do the following:
- Download mpp2ppr.exe from www.smartworks.us. It is a free tool to convert mpp files to the Smartworks Project Plan Reader format i.e. ppr.
- Download ppreader10.exe from the www.smartworks.us site. This is what allows you to read the Microsoft Project Plan.
Install both above tools, and use the mpp2ppr.exe to convert the mpp file to ppr and then the ppreader10.exe to read it.
- You can also use OpenProj from Serena software to do this. Only make sure you export the MS Project file in the required format from MS Project. IMPORTANT to note that OpenProj is now ProjectLibre and can be found at https://www.projectlibre.com/product/projectlibre-open-source
