It is possible to safely boost the wireless range using the DD-WRT firmware. After you install the firmware, visit this link to figure out how this can be done. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Advanced_wireless_settings#TX_Power. Do not make this value very high, else you could end up with more error packets and performance degradation. A very high value could result in damage to your wireless router. The default value for Linksys wireless routers is ~28, and DD-WRT sets up an initial value of 71. It has worked safely with values upto 81.
