Sony Xperia ZR not recognized when connected via USB port to Linux laptop

Note that Sony Xperia ZR USB mount only works with USB v 3.0 ports. If you connect the phone via USB to a USB v 2 port, and enter:
$ dmesg <enter>

you will see the following message in the log:
mtp-probe: bus: 1, device: 5 was not an MTP device

If it connects successfully on USB v 3 port, dmesg as above will display:
[ 5741.325378] usb 3-1: new high-speed USB device number 9 using xhci_hcd
[ 5741.342763] usb 3-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0fce, idProduct=0197
[ 5741.342771] usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 5741.342775] usb 3-1: Product: C5502

You can then mount the Device Storage and work with the files on it using the Linux File Manager.
