Some dpkg useful commands

Below are some useful parameters that can be used with dpkg to work with .deb packages.

$ sudo dpkg –get-selections Lists all installed packages
$ sudo dpkg -l true* Lists all packages starting with true
$ sudo dpkg -L truecrypt Lists all files installed by truecrypt
$ sudo dpkg -i timeout.deb Install the timeout.deb package
$ sudo dpkg -c timeout.deb Lists the contents of the deb package
$ sudo dpkg -I timeout.deb Extracts package info from package
$ sudo dpkg -r timeout.deb Removes installed timeout.deb package
$ sudo dpkg -P timeout.deb Purges installed timeout.deb package
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure timeout.deb Reconfigures the timeout.deb package

dpkg offers many more parameters. Refer the man page for more information.
