First time I tried Linux Mint 14 with Mate Desktop on the above board and am pleasantly surprised. Rock solid, zero crashes and better speed and performance. Had earlier put Ubuntu 12.10 on it, and it kept on hanging randomly when selecting Dash. Prior to that, had Fedora 17 and it still froze randomly.
# yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 The rest is all done for you. If the above driver is not installed, error about not being able to play games such as maniadrive, SuperTux, pops up, saying 3D graphics driver is proprietary or not installed. Before doing this, make sure you add the rpmfusion-free and rpmfusion-nonfree repositories.
